Really, $877, might as well get an ipad.

Anonymous said...

unless you want a real computer instead of an oversized ipod touch?

Anonymous said...

what about a battery live ??

Anonymous said...

877? just OMG...

Anonymous said...

I was very interested until I heard the price. I was totally for the iPad until I realized how much web browsing I specifically do requires flash.

I guess I will hold out to see how much the HP Slate costs. Don't want to fork out $900 for a tablet.

Anonymous said...

hell, this is what i am waiting for decades! waaaaaaa no internal 3g, my life is over . jkk, any chance to mod and install a 3g card?

Anonymous said...

I second the 3G mod request and as far as the HP Slate and iPad go, just remember this is $877 slate with a proper chip inside and won't require help (like Broadcom Crystal HD processors) to handle basic tasks that only phones and Atom based crap PCs choke on.

@JKK, any chance you can test a Ubuntu live CD with this one to see what works out of the box for the linux fans?

Anonymous said...

Are there any 10 inch laptops with CULV CPUs? I still don't understand the usefulness of tablets.

Epyon said...

Looks excellent! Thanks JKK.
So does the optical mouse physically press in to click, or does it just recognize taps?

P.S. Anyone trying to compare this to the iPad is brain damaged. This is how a tablet should be. Well actually, the active digitizer-equipped version of this is how a tablet should be.

what about 3G?and battery life, ideed...

Anonymous said...

Where are the Gigabit ethernet and the 3G on that thing and how well does it work under linux?

Anonymous said...

JKK
Is thing worth the asking price?
Simple question.
I want one. But I would hate to dump 890 bucks without trying it. Did that with the Archos 9 and now Im regretting it.
Thanks,
P

nice. Especially like the configurable keys, up/down rocker, and mousepad.

They did a nice job on the design; not too much bezel.

So when do they come out with a 7" version?

Anonymous said...

JKK

I'm sorry, is that $877 USD or RMB?

Anonymous said...

Triple the battery life and add 3G, and you've got yourself a sale.

Anonymous said...

No 3G = Fail....

JKK said...

Epyon, mouse has physical click.

It is $877 USD

This is a hot tablet! I don't understand what all the controversy is about. It's a step in the right direction. If I'm going to pay X amount of money for a tablet, I want it to be flexible, so I can do other things with it as well. (Just call me a tech nerd then) What's wrong with having value and features? I may only use it to surf 80% of the time, but there may be some times when I'm away from home and in a jam where I need it to do more than an ipad can do. This thing is basically a small PC and I love the idea of having the power of a PC in such a small versatile device.

And the guy said that the processor was not optimized yet, so the 3.5hrs is just on the prereleased unit. It should be more when it's not running at full speed all the time.

It would be a great product if Windows 7 was optimized for full touch operation. But this does pretty good at working around that with the pop up keyboard and all. I'd like to see handwriting recongition and a capacitive pen. As these products and OSs evolve, they'll get better and better. I don't own a laptop (touch pro2 handles my needs) but somthing like this may be the first portable computer that I buy.

This will be an interesting one to watch. I hope $877 isn't the entry level model, though...

Anonymous said...

Use a Novatel MiFi and you won't need a built-in modem.

At first glance I thought its the Notion Ink Adam Tablet.

@JKK: What about 720 or 1080 videos? Did you try them?

Nomax

Anonymous said...

What about the review of the BA10E? The BA10E seems to be the more interesting because of the active digitizer. I guess it's the first "tablet 2.0" that has it. Please don't keep us waiting too much :-)

Anonymous said...

JKK: Any update on when this will be released? It's already the 25th.....

Plantje said...

Haha! I had the exact same question! When can I order it? :)

Unknown said...

I love this device and cant wait for it to surface in the states. This is the only device out there that has a quality build, the real features of a pc, and is powerful. Hanvon has been around for awhile and knows how to build and support a device of this size. This kind of device is not in the same direct category as this Hanvon unit.

Anonymous said...

I guess the review of the BA10E is still missing because Hanvon forgot to give jkk a stylus for testing that kind of input :-D In fact, in the hands on video I didn't see any stylus.

Fernando said...

I would like to know where can I buy this hanvon Touchpad.

Another question what about of writting with ink, I do not find on the video a pencil for this tablet.

Thanks a lot from Spain

Unknown said...

We all need some info on availability.

Plantje said...

It has been a week ago now that the device should have been released. Is there any news to provide?

Plantje said...

Hmmm... my last comment doesn't seem to have it made to the website.

The device was supposed to be available as of the 25th of March. This has been a week ago... Is there any news?

Dv said...

Hi Jkk,

I've been waiting forever for this kind of product! Very interested in the BA10E the one with the active digitizer! Agree, this is how a tablet should be. So i can surf, read, and take handwritten notes on the go!

Any news on it's release in china? I'm in the US but closely following this one!

Cheers

Anonymous said...

Looks awesome! When can I buy one?

Anonymous said...

Jkk,

Who can import one here? Who is selling overseas?

Anonymous said...

I see they are taking pre-orders here:
http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db1-364cad2e29fb0b28c60c05f5f10cfb08.jhtml?cm_cat=0

Plantje said...

It looks like there is something happening!

Although I'm still hesitant towards ordering from a website that doesn't even have an English part. (It's like guessing if you hit the "order" button :))

Anyone have experience with this company? Or perhaps other information on world wide availability?

Anonymous said...

"TouchPad BA10E review coming soon too." A month after.....i don't think that 1 month is a right time definition for "soon"...

JKK said...

I don't have the BA10E yet.. they will send it when it's ready ( they said in week or two back in march..

Where can you buy the BC10C?

Anonymous said...

Yea, where can we order this precious.

Anonymous said...

I too am waiting for the release date
when when when !!!

Presently I an an Apple iPhone and iPad game developer and we are being harasser by Apples constant TOS (terms of Service) agreement. It changes with the wind (jobs). So when I see a pad that is comparable to iPad and has Windoows running My games can be ported with just about a mouse click (some work invited). I believe will be purchasing a couple of these for development work as soon a they are available state side.

By the way I am not the only one looking to get away from apples ridiculous TOS issues, there will be a mass following as soon as the new Windows and Addroid 2.X tablets and phones hit the market that are worthy.

Sorry for the rant.

Unknown said...

Hey jkk great job on the review! What is the battery life like?

Anonymous said...

I had a question about a tablet that offered both multi-touch and an active digitizer posed to Hanvon, and this is the response i received;
"For B10, the pen is optional. That means B10 can fulfill multi-touch and pen input. With the product preloaded handwring recognition software, you can write words to input to instead of type the keyboad. That means two kinds of way to input can be chosen." Unfortunately, they haven't yet provided whether or not hte digitizer is included or what the pricing would be. I'll keep you posted.

Plantje said...

George, I have sent you an E-mail. Perhaps it is an idea to team up if people are interested.

Anonymous said...

a chinese review said the battery life is about 3 hours....

Anonymous said...

I get mine send tomorrow .. jubii. You can buy the tablet from yoybuy through china stores..

Plantje said...

I just registered at yoybuy.com.
But how on earth do you know where to go?!?

I really tried for a very long time, but couldn't find a way to order. Can you send me the link that you used to order?

Deepan said...

you go to taboo.com and enter: bc10c and then google translate to understand, this is what i did. You can also get help from yoybuy's service, online help.

Deepan said...

Look here: http://www.hw99.com/product/productkind-4.htm
The 320 GB is called B10-G01, and the BC10c=B10 is 250 GB version. Search for the one you like.

Deepan said...

There is a price difference in 1000 Chinese Yen, between the 250 GB (BC10C=B10)(5999 Yen), and the 320 GB version (B10-G01) is (6999 Yen). I will suggest taken the cheap version and change the HDD afterwards yourself, maybe to SSD when the prices drops, which will give better battery life.

Plantje said...

Thanks! Strange... I really thought it was the same search as the one I did.

Please let us know how satisfied you are!

Can you also let us know if everything is in Chinese? I would assume the boxing, booklets etc is in Chinese. But Windows as well?

I think I would immediately go for the B10-G01. For the additional 1000 Chinese Yen the additional 70 GB is very much welcome!

Deepan said...

ok got my tablet, its called TouchPad on the front not Hanvon, and it doesnt have the sliding power on button as shown on this model. This is the real Hanvon product, as i see the B10 also has Touchpad written on the front. The overall PC experience is good, and I got a chineese version which also means the manual was in chineese. I converted Win 7 to english, so no problem.

dejainc said...

hey deepan, hows the battery life of your unit?

Deepan said...

The battery life is around 3.5 hours, all depends on how much you use it and for what. The tablet doesnt have all keys programable as told, you can not program them, as Hanvon removed the software for that.

Hey Guys

Some help if i can. After watching your awesome revikew - i decided to go off and purchase one of the Hanvon BC10C - however within 1 day the touchpad seemed to loose its touch. for a whole day after it didnt work - so i sent it to the repair agent for Hanvon in Australia

The repair guy said it was working fine - so i got it sent back to me - and yep was working fine.

I turned it off - went to sleep - turned it on the next day and the touchpad has stopped working again.

Is it possible that i am turning off the touchpad in some way so that it doesnt recognise touch?

I'm going out of my mind

Anonymous said...

So its me again - anonymous :) I fixed the Hanvon Touchpad issue - It seems that a connection is loose in the computer - as i found out yesterday - accidently dropping it, helped the touchpad to work correctly.

Whenever it stops working and recognising touch - i give it a bit of a slap on the back of the unit - and hey presto the multi touch starts working again.

Happy its working - not so happy about the way i need to make it work

Plantje said...

I think you should try to use the warranty.

Anonymous said...

Deepan,

How do you change the language to English?

Anonymous said...

Problem: The unit turns on by itself
Yeah. This tablet's initial bios is buggy. Get the updated fireware, google it. Got v1.6 and it seemed to have fixed the problem.

Anonymous said...

currently surfing this site with mine, the problem Im having is that the screen doesnt turn off when its not been used, can anyone help? I havw the latest bios
