Looking good so far. Got mine yesterday but it has to go back as the SSD was faulty :(

Guess that gives you more time to work out all the tricks for me.

I did manage to play a few video files of Micro-SD which worked perfect, and without any crazy conversions *woot*

I have a question!

What is the technology of the Archos Internet Tablet's touch screen? Some sites mention that it's capacitive, other say resistive... Which one is it?

Thanks!

peter it's resistive.i wanted to buy the archos 9 tablet but the screen is resistive,I can't find a tablet with a capacitative screen, and i want to buy one now.jkk u modified a mini 9 in the past with a touchscreen.Do you know if it can be done on any netbook, but with a capacitative screen?Thank you.

USB host
JKK, there is one question that Steve Chippy didnt cover: to use USB host the gadget is to be connected to 220V or just to dock with battery or you can even use it with mini-dock without 220V?

JKK said...

Anon, I show that on video....

.. you don't need 220v to use usb devices with batterydock

nice, but without 3G; especially such a device MUST have it?
just for sofa surfing, what a shame, what a waste!
:(
btw. the back housing looks like my nokia e71! ;)

JKK, thank you, but can I use USB host with mini-dock?

you can try to download apps in the apk form and maybe install direct to the tablet. also, there are other market alternatives out there. only had experiences with android phone so not sure if the same method can work with this device.

Hi

Can you charge your Archos 5 IT using mobile phone charger - e.g. Nokia N97 has micro usb mains charger.

Can you test if dinovo mini works with that thing? If I remember right you atleast had dinovo mini at some point.

I can charge mine using my kindle charger, but cant use the one from my Touch Pro 2, the connector is a little different. I don't have an N97 to test for you sorry. I find charging on the 5 IT with Android to be faster than the original 5 IMT. I have the same frustration with the app store and that needs to be fixed sooner rather than later if Archos wants better adoption of their device. At least with the latest firmware updates it has gotten much more stable. I have not been able to blue tooth tether to my Touch Pro 2 as of yet, but havent delved too deeply into it yet. I understand the list of supported phones is rather small. Currently use mine mobile connected to a mifi so its a useage scenario that works for me.

Sorry for being annoying, JKK, but to make it absolutely clear - can i use USB host with mini-dock not connected to 220v - that's the main question to make decision what to buy (mini-dock or dock)

USB host is the function of the USB port... ( which works without ac )

.. do you happen to mean USB hub? If yes, i have not tested.

Thanks for the time and energy you've put into this. Based on your videos I'm going to wait for a new version of FW and prices to fall a little.

Adobe has introduced Photoshop.com Mobile as an application for mobile phones running the Android operating system. It enables users to view, edit and apply effects to images.

I like this device alot but I wonder is there any handwriting recognition on Archos 5IT? Any other language keyboards beside English? Thanks!

There are handwriting recognition apps for Android, a really nice one is video reviewed at this link: http://androidcommunity.com/myscript-handwriting-recognition-for-android-video-20090611/

Unfortunately until things mature a little bit in the app store for the Archos 5 it may not work. When we get the 1.6 or better yet the 2.0 build of android (not holding my breath) to support the higher resolution of the Archos 5 it may not be natively supported. Android is just starting to come into its own with the higher resolution devices just coming out into the mainstream so I think things will get better fairly soon. But as it currently is those of us with the Archos 5 are sitting with a nice device but few apps. As far as other keyboards. I have not tested any, but there are quite a few keyboard layouts for the android system. But you would have to try them out to see if they work.

Thanks Tom, the handwriting apps you attached looks good to me and I assume it also works on Archos 5IT. Agree,Archos 5IT has potential now in terms of size, resolution and features. I hope they will keep their system upgrade for customers e.g 1.6, 2.0 build especially their appslib.

The only draw back for Android devices now is the system upgrade. 1.5, 1.6 & 2.0... and it seems only HTC Hero promises will have 2.0 upgrade for existing customers. Hopefully, all device makers will do the same as iPhone OSs.
