New ways to have more storage on Eee PCs coming..

Buffalo will release 32GB and 64GB PCI-E SSDs for Asus Eee PC 900 and 901.

These drives should be available mid-to late September.
Priced pretty ok ( others are 2 or 3 times more ) as 32GB will retail around $150 and 64GB $300.

We will see how fast they are... Soon...

Sadly it's Japan only for now.

UPDATE: Conics is selling them and shipping worldwide

will be seeing what the speed will be of it
that more intresting then price

well 150 bucks for 32gb plus the original (already too expensive to me) = A LOT of money, the HD version aspire one still has my vote.

Totally agree. If the speed is not good then its not worth getting 32gb.. I'll rather wait for a PCIE to ZIF adapter and get 1.8" HDD in it instead..

The EEE 901 already can take a 1.8" ZIF HDD in it. I have a 30 gb in my 901 now.

@Chris
Not all 901 have the ZIF port though.

Conics.net: "(JKKmobile will be testing with EEE PC 900/901 asap)" :-D
Looking forward to see the results!

yeah yeah can't wait. im not as computer savvy as you all are. so something i can just buy and pop in is the ticket for me. thanks buffalo, and jkkmobile, love you guys !!!!

@Chris te zif to zif cblecame with the hdd?? and can u replae the 4gb sdd with the 8 gb sdd???

Anonymous said...

since im using my drive for mp3 and divx storage, speed isnt the factor for me so i see it as a good development anyway. Is t true that these things disable the 4 GB SSD?

Anonymous said...

It says on the Buffalo-page that it's 901 only?

Fawad said...

That's strange as 900 and 901 uses the same mini-PCIE slot..
I guess this should also work with 700 series..

Buffalo 32GB and 64GB SSDs would be MLC type and have similar speed to the 901 8GB SSD. It is presumed much faster SLC 16GB SSD module occurs.

Can 8G model also use the buffalo PCI-E 32GB?

JKK said...

yep, 8G could... but you shoud wait for test results to see if it's fast enaught for OS use

Hello JKK! I have a question, Will it work also in the EEE900? i mean not booting, just if it works without boot!
i'll wait till you tested it for its booting capabilitys to know that for yure, but still wondering if it could replace the 8GB SSD from my EEE 900

JKK said...

it should work fine on 900 too... I will test it.

2 of these will go great 1 for c: 1 for d: now all i need is the 16gig sd card :D idk if i want to spend all this money just on the 900 im finding that the cpu is just not doing it for me its crashed on me 4 times in the past 2 months and on the eee 900 im unable to stram hd tv through my tv tuner and when i try its like the cpu overloads so mabe this will be worth it on the eee 900a

How would I know Buffalo has tested 32GB PCI-e SSD on EeePC 8G which comes with 8GB PCI-e SSD instead of soldered.

Mine is a EEE PC 8G model with PCI-e 8GB SSD and I am thinking of converting to WIN XP. Any idea I could upgrade to 32GB PCI-e SSD? I need the test result of Buffalo 32GB PCI-e SSD on the 8G model before I order one from Conic.Net.

I have the 900 (the one with one PCIE slot with one 16GB module). It is SLOOOOOOOOOW!

The problem is not reading, it boots QUICK. The problem is WRITING. Slow writes just kills Windows performance since it is always writing back to the hard drive.

I am hoping the buffalo is faster at writing. Don't care about the size. Just speed!

*Please* someone dig up the read/write speeds so we can make a decision to order or not?

Anonymous said...

Is that the reason the write speed that determine the 4G SSD as C drive in almost all EeePC models except 8G. It may be right now that I realise why limit to cdrive 4GB! till the 901 series too!!! So if you have a 32GB better to partition if it can to 6GB cdrive and the rest ddrive!!

Its not the size! it is the type of flash chips they use

Say only de Mb/s transfer a SDHC Class 6 is 6Mb/s fast transfers what speed is ssd buffalo? i have eee asus 900 whit 16gb of damn slow ssd hd whit windows xp and i hate how slow is that shit, memory update to 2gb no the solution is the hd ssd.

Hi,
I love my 901, 4G C Drive with XP. Bought it barely a month ago, and if SP3 had come out before my 30 day return window closed, I would have exchanged it for the Linux version. SP3 is huge, and it can't even install on my eee. It takes 1.5G to install it. But it did manage to disable my camera.

I have read all the posts, and what I want to know is can I buy the 32G Buffalo SSD and install it in place of the 4G one? I am not too tech savvy, so if this has already been answered, I apologize.

Me again. Fixed camera (and bluetooth) by holding down F2 while booting and enabling it, bluetooth, and WLAN in the onboard devices tab. Apparently, these are disabled if you update BIOS.

yeesh, you guys who whine about the price - do you even remember when a decent subnote cost well upwards of $4000? That's the price I've been buying mine at.

I just got the 901, it's a steal, and am waiting for the 64GB ssd to land near $200 to grab that too - man the times we are living!

So in short, quit bitching, life's good! : )

Hello all, I have an eee 901. It's a great machine but hard drive space is an issue, so I had installed toshiba's newly released 1.8" 120gb 5mm thick HD. I now really enjoy the 901 alot! P.S. the 120 HD is also in the new 120gb ipod too.
