Eee PC 901 internals hint future upgrades and options

Asus is clearly not telling everything yet..

First the bad news; it looks like the SSD is still 2 separate drives as there are only 4 flash modules/ side on the psi-e card.. 2 x 8 = 16 so to make 20GBs there needs to be 4GB separate SSD.. above screenshot proofs it.

Then the good ones; There is a place for the SIM card and extra PCI-E slot.. 3G HSDPA option!

and if you look at the shape and the size of that hole.. and the zif connector near it, you can see it's for 1.8 inch drive.

Big HDD or super fast SSD anyone?!

So expect wwan and bigger drive options/upgrades in near future...

I noticed on your earlier post with those pics that on the topside there were some big clumps of unpopulated pads on the pcb. Wonder what they have planned?

Hi JKK,
did you take those pictures? Can you tell which Atom Processor the 901 uses? N230 or N270, with or without Hyperthreading?
Thx a lot

Hi JKK, I am planing to buy a UMPC, but don't know what should I choose. Definitely I want SSD (it's faster and solid), just wander between eeePC 900 or to wait for 901 or 1000 or another brand I don't mind. Somewhere I have read that Atom processor is not good as Intel Celeron, that it is just more economic for the batery's life, but lacks of performance. I did the math and, if I buy the eeePc 900 and buy extra 2GB RAM and SDHC 16GB or buy the eeePC 1000 it will cost me about the same... Just don't know about the processor... and off course the eeePC 1000 will be bigger and a bit heavier... What you think?
